The County of Los Angeles Chief Executive Office, Office of Emergency Management (OEM) wants to remind all County residents and businesses to take the necessary steps now to prepare for earthquakes and other hazards and threats. The following are some preparedness tips on what to do during an earthquake. Receive emergency notifications by registering your cell or landline through Alert LA County
- DROP underneath a piece of furniture.
- TAKE COVER by protecting your head and neck with your arm/hand underneath the furniture.
- HOLD ON to the piece of furniture to prevent uncovering or shifting away until the shaking completely stops.
Never try to exit out of a building during an earthquake. This is when most people are injured by falling debris.
In a wheelchair or walker during an earthquake, remember to:
- LOCK YOUR WHEELS.
- TAKE COVER by protecting your head and neck with something that will help deflect falling debris.
